Andre Aggasi once said, “it is no accident, I think, that tennis uses the language of life. Advantage, service, fault, break, love…the basic elements of tennis are those of everyday existence…”

For me personally, I believe that tennis not only teaches life skills but builds character; how to make good decisions, how to treat others with respect, how to reach deep within yourself and push forward even when the odds are stacked against you.

As our children and grandchildren begin to develop their tennis game, I believe they are also beginning to develop their character. And traits such as honesty, teamwork and integrity begin to shine through both on and off the court.

This is reflected in the fact that three of our young people have been recognized this year by USTA North Carolina for their sportsmanship and leadership skills. You may know them or their parents, Brock Boehling, Kendall Hanks and Lucas McLatchy. Their awards serve to make my point that if we start now, while they are young, we have a chance to influence their life forever. I’ve known Brock since he was a little boy and Kendall started in my program when she was 8 though I don’t know Lucas, I am told he is a leader as well.

Using tennis, we have a chance to help our children begin to develop their character and learn the life skills that will help them become the successful leaders of the the future.

We have a wonderful base of volunteers already shaping the future of our children but not near enough to get the job done. Won’t you take a minute to contact me to see how you can become involved in influencing these children?
